This was one of the first young adult books that I had read the beginning of last year. Yeah I know why so long to do the review? First, I never was able to get completely caught up but second this one some how did not get onto my review coming soon list. So, I apologize not only to all of you out there that follow and to most especially the author Samantha March.I did some what enjoy reading the book. It touches on a lot of hard, tuff and some would say controversial. But in this day and time, mostly fits with loose emotions, and the result of choices you make have consequences.
Mix feelings, abuse, fear, some very very scary life situations. How do, or what do, or why, why, why? All the tears and mixed emotions that author Samantha March has placed with in the pages of this book were hard in some places to read due to you just want to pull the college age main character Jasmine Jones as she falls deeper and deeper into life that all the choices get harder and harder to make.
The only thing I felt was all the pain which I know how real life can be, but there were a few times I was unsure how much more I, myself could read. Hard Hard Hard. No, if you think that things like this happened to me personally, it was just so hard to read and realize at the same time that things like this could go on. And there were just a few times that the story was depressing because of that.
So due to the above, I am giving this book the Breath of Life Rating of:
Four Clock Rating!!!

I thought this book was very thought out. I myself have not gone through any of the experiences J.J has or her friends have. I do have family members that have and I have seen from their experiences that it was difficult for them. I feel if this book would have come out way sooner for them they would have been inspired to go forward and tell someone sooner. It definitely was a great eye opener to see what woman go through on a day to day basis and how strong woman can be. As a mom I pray it never happens to my girls. This book helps me as a mom to beable to start teaching my girls who are young to beable to point out what is wrong and that it's okay to tell someone because that's the right thing to do!
Great book! It did made me angry, sad and happy throughout the whole book but I feel that that makes a author a great writer.
Loved it! Sucked me in right away in the first chapter!
I'm so happy that I was finally able to read this book; I've been wanting this book since before Christmas, bought it in February, and I finally got the chance to read it. The prologue of this novel immediately draws you in because of its intensity; the action literally begins as soon as you read the prologue. Jasmine Jones is 19-years-old, getting ready to leave for college, and has been dealt a really bad hand in life. When Jasmine attends a college that is four hours away from home, she leaves behind her mother, her boyfriend, and her family secrets, or so she thought. After a month or so of moving Des Moines with her best friend Abby, she finds out Abby is pregnant and is leaving Irving to return back to Julien with her abusive boyfriend, Jason. Just when things are getting back to as normal as they possibly can be for Jasmine, she finds out she's pregnant. This novel was NOT what I expected at all, it was even better, and I had pretty high expectations for this novel, so it was wonderful! I didn't expect for Jasmine to have so many obstacles on top of being pregnant, but it kept me wanting to know more of her story. I was thinking this was going to be a light, fun read, but it dealt with some pretty heavy issues; as a reader I respected all the issues, but as a writer, I appreciated the issues even more. It's important, to me, when I read novels are watch films that deal with such heavy issues, because in my opinion you can never have too much information on these subjects. I feel as if Samantha did a great job of bringing awareness to these issues, without taking away from the novel. I absolutely loved Jasmine, I respected her, and I thought that she was very easy to relate to. I think every girl should read this book at some point in her life and I think everyone should stop what they're doing right now and buy this book; I promise you will NOT be disappointed!!
I've been dying to read this book for quite some time now... and with the release of her second book, The Green Ticket, just a couple weeks ago, I felt now was the perfect time to read it. I "met" Samantha (not personally, but online) through her blog, Chick Lit Plus, where she posts reviews on chick lit books, celebrity gossip, and fashion advice. I really love her blog and I love working with her on her sister venture, CLP Blog Tours. Samantha is super sweet and always so helpful and caring... I thought for sure her debut novel would be a light, fun chick lit read. It definitely wasn't a "light" chick lit read, but was absolutely wonderful.
Destined to Fail is a story about Jasmine, a college student, who is flug a series of dramatic curveballs that she must figure out how to deal with and work through. The story addresses sensitive issues such as teen pregnancy, physical and sexual abuse, as well as others. In my opinion, Samantha approached each topic with the utmost respect and worked through them beautifully. I can only imagine it must be tough for authors to write such sensitive emotional issues in a story, but Samantha hit it on the dot. What a wonderful story about real-life drama and chaos, to say the least.
Destined to Fail is a remarkable story that really makes you think... and in my case, fight back tears now and then. There were times when I was reading where my eyes just couldn't go fast enough. It was very intense and definitely hit close to home. I connected quite a bit with Jasmine immediately. This is an inspiring story that I would definitely recommend to women. If you haven't read Samantha's debut novel yet, I really suggest that you do! )
